How long is the EMT Intermediate course?

The EMT Intermediate course exceeds the DOT National Curriculum and includes 94.5 hours of instruction.

The course consists of classroom instruction and practical skill labs, as well as clinical time in the hospital emergency room.

Classes are 2 nights per week, Tuesday and Thursday, 5:30-10:00 P.M.

What is the cost of the course?

Tuition $685.00
Tuition includes
  • EMT Intermediate course
  • Textbook and workbook
  • Course lab fees
  • Course handouts
  • Equipment and supplies
  • Notarized applications for the State
BEMS Certification fees
  • $80 = Resident fee
  • $130 = Non-resident fee (considered non-resident if you have lived outside of Utah within the last 5 years. You will also be required to complete finger-printing for application.)
  • Note: The BEMS certification fee is for testing and application processing done by the State of Utah. The fee is not included in your tuition, and needs to be a separate check or money order made out to BEMS (they don't accept cash or credit card). This fee is due at Orientation night, because it must be turned in with your State application on the first day of class.
  • The State also requires you to provide documentation of having a TB test within the last year, you will need to bring this information to your orientation if you have it.  This is a simple test which can be administered the first night of class if you have not had one within a year.

How long will my EMT Intermediate certification be good for?

The state EMT Intermediate certification is valid for a period of 4 years.

During that time you will be required to maintain your certification by accumulating continuing medical education credits.

Once your 4 year period is up you may recertify your EMT Intermediate for another 4 years by taking the state written recertification test.

What equipment will I need?

All of the equipment you will utilize during class is provided by the Academy.

Are there any pre-requisites?

Yes. The State requires you to be a Certified EMT Basic prior to taking the Intermediate course. (Note: A recent rule change at the State level has now eliminated the old requirement of being certified for six months or a year prior to going on to an Intermediate course.)

You must also hold a current CPR certification card. If you do not currently have a valid CPR certification we offer the American Heart Association Healthcare Provider certification course every two weeks. To register for the next CPR course click here.
