How
long is the EMT Basic course?
The EMT Basic course is 10 weeks long which
follows the DOT National Curriculum and includes 120 hours of
instruction.
The course consists of classroom instruction and practical skill
labs, as well as clinical time either riding along with the Fire
Department or working in the hospital emergency room.
Classes are Monday and Wednesday nights 5:30-10:00 P.M., and some
Saturdays 10:00 A.M. -5:00 P.M.

Certification fees |

= Resident fee
- $210
= Non-resident fee (considered non-resident if you have
lived outside of Utah within the last 5 years. You will
also be required to complete finger-printing for application.)
- Note:
The BEMS certification fee is for testing and application
processing done by the State of Utah. The fee is not included
in your tuition, and needs to be a separate check or money
order made out to BEMS (they don't accept cash or credit
card). This fee is due at your registration appointment which is held the Saturday prior to class beginning.
- The
State also requires you to provide documentation of having
a TB test within the last year, you will need to bring
this information to your orientation if you have it.
This is a simple test which we can administer the first
night of class for a cost of $10 if you have not had one within a year.

From the I-15 12300 S. exit go East approximately 1 block through the first light. We are located on the South side of 12300 S. directly South of the Guadalahonky's mexican restaurant. We are between Allstate and Post-Net.
What
is the average class size?
Classes are limited to 36 students and fill
to capacity quickly. Register early to reserve your position in the class. We do run a waiting list for every class.
Classes are unlike other college-level courses and multiple instructors
are utilized during practical sessions to assure the personal
attention required for learning advanced skills.
How
long will my EMT Basic certification be good for?
The State EMT Basic certification
is valid for a period of 4 years.
During that time you will be required to maintain your certification
by accumulating continuing medical education credits.
Once your 4 year period is up you may recertify your EMT Basic for
another 4 years by taking the State written recertification test.
What
equipment will I need?
Most all of the equipment you will utilize during
class is provided by the Academy.
You will be required to obtain a stethoscope
and blood pressure cuff for your personal use during class as
well as during your clinical time.
These items will be available for purchase at the Academy or you
can buy them on your own.
How
old do I have to be?
The State requires you to be at least 17 years
old prior to taking the EMT Basic
course. You must also turn 18 within 120 days of the end of the course; the State will then hold your certification
card until your eighteenth birthday.
